Anderton Lift is GREAT, well worth the couple of hours, and had we known that there is no charge to take a boat down or up we might have taken Explorer through rather than taking the trip boat down and walking back up. However one advantage of the trip boat is that there is a very good commentary.

Three tunnels, two with working lamp, and one by torch light, such is the timing of bulbs departing this fair earth.

We moored up near Walton Hall, not quite as far on as we had hoped, but we just missed the entry time slot at Preston Brook Tunnel by a matter of minutes, so an hour's wait.
