Back start of cruise

Back to Yesterday

This morning saw me chug along to the Hack Green Secret Bunker, pretty much as planned. Its a very sobering place, seeing the preparations that were made for what, thankfully, never was. Most moving for me was the room set up for local government, one desk was for the "casualty" officer, his job was to arrange for the mass burial of a large proportion of the population...

On a brighter note it was a gloriously sunny morning, and every one was relaxed, apart from the guy who was turning his boat the hard way - I gave up using ropes if the engine is working a long time ago, there are a number of reasons for not roping a boat round, and I hope he doesn't find out too many of them - getting wet is the least of your worries, I'm sure that you can work out a few more.

In the evening I headed off by train to meet some frieds in Altrincham for a curry and a pint (does this sound familiar?). The outward journey only took about an hour and a hlf, but involved 2 changes! Return was a lift to Wilmslow and then train direct to Nantwich. We ended up at the "Swan With Two Nicks" in Little Bollington, a very nice country pub

Thoughts on DUCKS - Ducks are to be seen all over the canal, but how often do we ever give them a thought?
Not very often is my guess, but one thing struck me as I chugged along today, how much noise the smallest duckling can make. Really way out proportion with its size the duckling that has got separated from its siblings makes a really very loud noise, far louder than the boat rengine, and can be heard a long way off. Has this noise level eveloved to cope with passing boats, or has it always been there, and just never used?

On to Tomorrow
