The first real day of cruising. Jane set up on the front deck to do some lace while Phil & I ran the boat, me steering and Phil doing the physical stuff. It was a glorious day, and all of us got various bits over cooked. There was no drama en-route, just some very nice bits of canal, and 11 wide locks, including two sets of staircase locks, great fun for the uninitiated. We got to Chester having crawled past what felt like miles of linear moorings, with lots of "Sunday Boaters" polishing their boats and not going far (Why have a boat worth £'000s and not use it???) The final run in to Chester has changed since I last did it by canal about 20 years ago, various landmarks having gone and others come up in their place. The first place we moored was declared to be "too noisy" so Phil and I set off to look ahead. We ended up below the Northgate locks opposite the publcisied Telford warehouse.
After a quick freshen up we set of in hunter gatherer mode to find a pub/hotel/restaurant that was quiet and would feed us - not as easy as I'd expected, but eventually we found "Ye Olde Kings Head" on Lower Bridge Street (www.yeoldekingshead.co.uk). Well worth finding, no bouncers (sorry door staff), quiet, good food and sensible prices. So another day ended with us heading back to the boat and the not excessive noise from the pub over the other side of the cut.
